Who are you?
Hi, I am Harry, otherwise known as Ice Bath Harry, and I'm a recovering drug addict from Portsmouth. I'm 33 years old and three weeks ago I had a daughter called Billy. And yeah, I take an ice bath every day and I am a social media person, personality, if you like. And yeah, I talk in my ice bath about recovery, addiction, mental health, and I try to inspire other people to get clean and to educate other people who dunno what the disease of addiction, what it is, so they can best understand their loved ones and help them live free from active addiction.
What is your background?
So I left school at 15 and I left without any GSEs and I found myself working in sales for my early twenties into my mid twenties. And I ended up in the world of double glazing where I was working for national companies, selling windows and doors. And being in a high pressured sales role is hard. It's very dog eat, dog welded, and it's very high pressure. And at the time I was working really long hours. I was struggling in all honesty, to continue to work the long hours that I was working and the long weeks that I was working. And I found cocaine, which at a time was helping me burn the candle at both ends. And yeah, I started taking it on the weekends, then I started taking it in the weekdays, in the evenings, and then before long I was taking it all day every day. And I operated like that for many years until five years ago. I asked my dad to put me into rehab, and I was very fortunate enough that my dad was in a position to put me into a residential treatment centre for 28 days, where I finally got some help and was able to look inward at what was driving those behaviours because there became a point where I couldn't stop taking drugs. It started off as a way to enable me to continue to work long hours to make more money, to be the best at what I could be at. And yeah, I worked for multiple companies. I worked for a local company. I ended up setting my own company up a few years back. And yeah, that was all, look at me, it was all ego. And I came out of rehab five years ago and I closed the business down and I was in and out working in different jobs, worked in mental health for a little bit, and then I started creating content. I feel like what I've done now is I've sort of combined the content creation with the mental health job that I worked in. That's where iPath Harry came about, and that is what I do online now. I talk about recovery and addiction and help other people.
What is your experience with Ice baths?
Hi, I'm Harry, and today I am 324 days clean sere. And this is my second nice bath of the day and I don't really want to do it, but I am going to do it because I've been invited up to the studios in London by JAAQ and they want me to talk about cold water exposure for the second time today, I submerged in cold water. Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening everyone. It never gets easier. I've done this every day for 324 days and yeah, it doesn't get any easier and once you're in it gets a little bit easier, but the thought of doing it, it's just not nice. But we're in and yeah, here we go.
