Why is having fun essential to relationship building?
The next thing might seem logical, but we forget sometimes. Have fun. Do an activity together. Don't just work at the relationship, enjoy the relationship. Having things in common or growing through common experiences is so key for building relationships, making them light and easy, as well as deepening them.
How does trust and respect contribute to healthy relationships?
Well, number one is very obvious. Having trust and respect. You think about what people call the trust fall, where you're in a circle and you close your eyes and you fall back hoping and hoping that somebody's going to catch you. Being able to know that that person has your back. They will catch you. They will forgive you when necessary. That's really important, and you have to be that person also. You have to be the person who has their back, who forgives them, who will not talk about them, will not gossip. So that's all part of trust as well as respect. Watch your tone. Watch how you speak to somebody. You're not their boss, you're not a parent, and you wouldn't even want a boss or a parent speaking to anyone that way.
How does emotional equity contribute to healthy relationships?
The second key is emotional equity. That has to do with maintaining an emotional bank account. If you have a regular bank account, you don't want to always be making withdrawals or you'll have no money in the account. That also goes for relationships. If you were always the person who takes borrows, who's expecting things of the other person, and you're not being the person who can give, and who can share, and who can go the extra mile, it's not equal, and you're going to either result with one person or the other one having resentment or break the relationship altogether. Maintain equity in your emotional bank account.
