How Can You Reduce Food Waste and Stay Organized?
Using a first in, first out, A-K-A-F-F-O organisation system where when you buy something new, you move those items to the back so that way you're using the older things first. So that's going to help cut down on food spoilage, food waste, that sort of thing. So I would say do that in your fridge, your freezer, do that with dry goods that way, and it keeps you in touch with what you have and what you need so you don't end up accidentally buying more things than you actually need in reality.
How should you store appliances?
When it comes to appliances, so I'm talking about things like blenders, air fryers, slow cookers, whatever you have. There's so many things, right? And I think we all have those items that we use all the time, and then those others that really don't get much use. So the ones that you are going to be using frequently, keep them in easy reach in your kitchen. You can also group like items together. So for example, if you love making smoothies, maybe you set up some of your favourite shelf stable smoothie ingredients by the blender in your kitchen, so that way you don't have to be ravaging all over the kitchen for the things that you need. It's all right there.
How Do You Actually Use Your Kitchen?
So for starters, think about how you use the space. What are you doing in your kitchen when you're there? Are you just making coffee or are you making full meals? What times of day are you there? Who else is with you? What's happening? Thinking about how you use a particular space gives you clues as to how to set it up to have a nice flow so that it's convenient to use it the way that you need it. So for example, if you are doing a lot of food prep, for example, maybe on a Sunday, that's when you do some meal prep. You want to have a good area where you can work good, like of counter space. Maybe you have all your gear, like your cutting boards, your knives, your roasting pans, all in easy reach, whatever it is that you need.
